Steve Mason – All Come Down

Steve Mason - All Come Down (Domino Records)
April 23, 2011
5.3/6.0
Steve Mason reminds of the fact he released a quite wonderful album with last year’s Boys Outside by showcasing a track that embodies everything good about it in the form of the joyous All Come Down.
Beginning in beautifully understated fashion as Mason’s distinctively haunting voice is accompanied by a lone picked guitar melody, the listener is drawn into this tale of everlasting devotion as the track builds up gradually with staccato electronic drum beats introducing an intricate arrangement that is in full flow as Mason carries an effortless change of vocal line. The song finishes in a swirl of string synthesisers with Mason’s voice as omnipresent as ever. It’s efforts like this that make you hope he will continue this welcome renaissance, in any case there will always be a place for the man in the heart of this humble reviewer.
