About alexia

avatar Alexia Rogers-Wright is a perpetual student, now in her seventh year of study. Her taste in music essentially falls into two genres; folksy-indie such as Sufjan Stevens, Mumford & Sons and Beirut, and indie/electro such as Cut Copy and Hot Chip, along with a lot of other things that just don't fit into a genre like Yeasayer. Alexia has been with us from the very beginning, lived in Motel Towers for a good while and got a little starstruck when Guy Garvey once knocked on the door and asked if he could smoke on her balcony.

5.0/6.0

Whilst there may be many bands for whom a collection of B-sides may be nothing more than a money grabbing attempt to create a mediocre album from a set of second rate songs, this is where the Eels, or more precisely, Mark Everett, comes into his own.

Birdsong

Andrew Bird (c) Alexia Rogers-Wright, 2007

Andrew Bird
Academy 3, Manchester
Thursday, November 8th 2007

Several of Bird’s songs build up from the tiniest little sounds and I don’t think I have ever been to a gig where the silence is so loud. You could have heard a pin drop as every single member of the audience eagerly awaits the next note.

Loney, Dear - Saturday Waits (Regal) July 16th, 2007 5.4/6.0 Saturday Waits is the second single by Loney, Dear, aka Swedish singer-songwriter Emil Svanängen to come out on general release. If Swedish music conjures images of 17 members of I'm From Barcelona crowded into a disabled toilet excitably singing nursery rhymes, you may be interested [...]

Pull Tiger Tail – Hurricanes

Pull Tiger Tail – Hurricanes (B-Unique Records) June 18th, 2007 3.8/6.0 Pull Tiger Tail's fourth single Hurricanes is such a fun, poppy little ditty that it'll get not just their target audience of 15-18 year olds dancing, but it may also have the same effect upon the more mature listeners who stumble across it. Despite [...]

Cold War, Warm Heart

Cold War Kids - Robbers and Cowards (V2 Records) February 5th, 2007 (re-release) 4.5/6.0 Since Top of the Pops disappeared, it has become very difficult to tell whether a band has really “made it” or not. However, Cold War Kids recently appeared on Later with Jools Holland, which has got to be some sort of [...]
