A mad dash to The Other Stage follows to catch the second half of Maximo Park’s triumphant return, and, my word, how this band have grown from their self-conscious debut appearance two years ago.

It seems like we have a trade-off here. Just as Guillemots take to the Pyramid, it starts raining again. This obviously does not amuse their madcap, and, on this evidence, meteorologically delusional frontman Fyfe Dangerfield, who declares “IT’S! NOT! RAINING!” rather defiantly, as well as wrestling with a wooden chair for at least two minutes, during the set.
Bloody hell! What’s that coming from over the hill? Could it be highly acclaimed Motel New Favourite ‘Band’ of May 2007, Jack Peñate? It certainly could!
Normally utterly shambolic live, The Cribs are consummate professionals today. Hey Scenesters and Men’s Needs sound fantastic, and the band are cast in a whole new light thanks to this dramatic live improvement.
Many thanks to the kind young chap, who the Motel thinks hailed from Plymouth, who (literally) lent a hand to get out of the melee. No thanks to those in the tent who made no attempts to control the errant crowd...
